KUALA LUMPUR, 19 JULY 2024 – Tokyo Street, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur’s award-winning cultural precinct, is set to celebrate its 13th anniversary with an exciting ‘Maneki Neko Matsuri’ themed campaign.
Throughout this month, the celebration will be infused with kawaii culture and traditional Japanese charm. Step into the glitz and glamour of Japan with various choices available in Tokyo Street; from maneki neko-themed stores with different variations of your favourite lucky cat, a green tea haven for matcha lovers, and rich, puréed sweet treats for the soul – the possibilities are endless at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.
IMMERSE IN JAPANESE CULTURE
Maneki neko, or “lucky cat,” is a popular Japanese figurine believed to bring good luck, prosperity, and fortune. Adorning many homes, the auspicious figure stars in Tokyo Street’s 13th anniversary celebration. Visitors can explore maneki neko-themed decorations and take selfies with a six-foot-tall maneki neko statue. The showcase features a variety of mini maneki neko designs.
Don’t miss Malaysian artist Chun Yu’s ‘Maneki Neko Matsuri’ art exhibition, showcasing playful forms of the lucky cat. The area is adorned with colourful maneki neko printed lanterns, floor stickers, flags, and figurines, creating a captivating scene. Capture memorable photos with cute costumed maneki neko.
From now until 13 August, shoppers can indulge in various Japanese experiential activities including maneki neko workshops such as lucky cat clay making (13 July at 3pm and 21 July at 5pm), lucky cat felt bag making (14 and 20 July at 3pm, and 27 July at 4pm), and MeArtTime painting (21 July at 12pm). Catch stunning performances happening throughout the campaign period, including a performance by FlyHigh Orchestra on 27 July from 5pm to 6pm, and a maneki neko mascot performance on 20 and 28 July at 5pm
Enjoy pop-ups hosted by Artisans Malaysia, Karafu, and Okurimono by Liwu, as well as exciting weekend activities, featuring a Kendama demonstration on 14 July and a Kendo demonstration on 20 July from 12pm to 2pm. Additionally, shoppers will also get a chance to participate in the One Piece card game tournament on 27 July from 12pm to 4pm and 28 July from 2pm to 4pm.
SHOPPER REWARDS
When you’re done shopping, head to the Tokyo Street concierge counter on Level 6 to pick up fantastic rewards. Limited to one redemption per customer every day, shoppers who spend a minimum of RM130 at Tokyo Street stores in a single receipt will be eligible to take a spin on the maneki neko gachapon machine and receive a special gift. Meanwhile, shoppers who spend RM200 at Tokyo Street or RM300 at all specialty stores in a single receipt will receive a cute maneki neko coaster, limited to one redemption per day.
Be sure to also participate in the ‘Spend & Win’ lucky draw, where 13 winners will be selected to receive a Casio watch or a Japanese-inspired scented candle – all you have to do is spend a minimum of RM130 in a single receipt at Tokyo Street, and upload your receipt to the Pavilion KL mobile application or visit Tokyo Street concierge counter on Level 6!
